Class meets 9:00 am to noon, Monday mornings for 8 weeks. OGMS instructor Jean pSmith leads this class.
Attendees must have full understanding of both silver soldering and lapidary machine use to attend. No beginners can be accomodated for this class.
Box rings (hollow-form fabricated rings) are a fun and challenging project that will test your fabrication and soldering skills. Our ring will be inlaid, so dig deep into your stash of lapidary rough, to find something really special!
We will be making our rings from 22 gauge sterling. Alternately bronze can be used, but silver is highly recommended for at least the ring interior.
Students can etch or roller print their materials for added design elements. If you choose to etch or roller print, please start with heavier metal such as 18-20 gauge to compensate for metal thinning during these processes.
Please do all etching prior class to help you maintain pace with the project.
Suggested inlay materials: Turquoise, Varicite, Coral, Jasper, Onyx, Fossilized bone, exotic wood, Lapis Lazuli, Mother of Pearl, Opal (synthetic recommended), Gold and silver sheet... We will discuss stone choices regarding hardness & finish, and the different styles of inlay that can be employed.
